Ein Doktorat in den am Kunsthistorischen Institut der Universität Zürich angebotenen Fächern – Kunstgeschichte, Kunstgeschichte Ostasiens und Mittelalterarchäologie – bietet Ihnen die Möglichkeit, sich im Rahmen eines eigenen Forschungsprojekts vertieft und spezialisiert mit kunsthistorischen Fragestellungen auseinanderzusetzen. Mit dem erfolgreichen Abschluss des Doktorats weisen Sie die Fähigkeit zu eigenständiger wissenschaftlicher Forschung nach. Sie erwerben zusätzliche fachliche Qualifikationen und erweitern Ihre beruflichen Perspektiven in wissenschaftlichen, kuratorischen und kunstvermittelnden Berufsfeldern.
Im Mittelpunkt des Doktoratsstudiums steht das Verfassen einer Dissertation. Ergänzend absolvieren die Doktorierenden Module im Umfang von 12 ECTS Credits.
Betreuung
Ein Doktoratsprojekt wird fachlich von einer Betreuungskommission betreut. Die Betreuungskommission setzt sich zusammen aus mindestens zwei promotionsberechtigten Dozierenden. Mindestens ein Mitglied der Betreuungskommission muss eine Professorin oder ein Professor mit fakultätsinterner Promotionsberechtigung sein. Ein Mitglied übernimmt die Hauptbetreuung im Doktorat, die andere Person die Co-Betreuung. Die Einsetzung weiterer Co-Betreuungspersonen ist möglich. Eine Co-Betreuung können auch Personen aus anderen Fächern bzw. Instituten der Philosophischen Fakultät der UZH sowie auch UZH-externe Professor*innen übernehmen. Die Entscheidung über die Zusage einer Projektbetreuung liegt bei den Dozierenden. Diese flexible Betreuungsstruktur erlaubt es Ihnen, Ihr Dissertationsprojekt auf Ihre Forschungsinteressen abzustimmen und von der Expertise verschiedener Disziplinen zu profitieren.
Die Graduiertenschule bildet das organisatorische Dach für das Doktorat an der Philosophischen Fakultät. Sie unterstützt und berät die Doktorierenden und Betreuungspersonen während des gesamten Doktorats. A doctorate in one of the PhD programs offered at the Department of Art History at the University of Zurich – Art History, East Asian Art History, and Medieval Archaeology – provides you with the opportunity to pursue art historical topics in depth and with a high degree of specialization through your own research project. Upon successful completion of your doctorate, you will have demonstrated your ability to conduct independent academic research. You will gain advanced specialist qualifications and expand your career opportunities in academic, curatorial, and art-educational professions.
The doctorate revolves around writing a thesis. In addition, PhD students also complete modules earning a total of 12 ECTS credits.
Supervision
A doctoral project is supervised by a supervisory committee. A supervisory committee consists of at least two persons with the right to confer a doctorate. At least one supervisor must be a professor with the faculty-internal right to confer a doctorate. One of the two members must act as principal supervisor. The second member is responsible for co-supervision. It is possible to have additional co-supervisors. Persons from other disciplines or institutes of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at UZH as well as professors from outside UZH may also act as co-supervisors. It is up to the professors to decide whether or not to take on supervision.
This flexible supervision structure allows you to tailor your dissertation project to your research interests and to benefit from the expertise of different disciplines.
