CARAH was founded in 2020 by a group of white art historians at the University of Zurich, who advocate anti-racist art-historical research and teaching. In light of the fact that structural racism in Switzerland is still insufficiently problematized both in everyday life and in academia, CARAH aims not least to examine local conditions and university structures. The collective, which sees itself as an open constellation including people with and without experiences of racism, would like to contribute to the decolonization of the University of Zurich, but also to counteract racism in non-university art spaces. In a dialogue and collaboration with experts in the fields of anti-racist art history and anti-racism more generally, the collective strives for exchange with other art history institutes and art colleges in Switzerland.
