New forms of research and teaching are emerging at the Department of Art History (KHIST) at UZH as part of a move towards a stronger global and interdisciplinary focus. In future, interdisciplinary exchange is expected to engender novel approaches to international cooperation.
The long-standing cooperation between individual professorships at KHIST was officially formalised in late 2024 through a Memorandum of Understanding between the UZH and the Museum Rietberg Zurich. This agreement strengthens a long-standing collaboration that has evolved through joint research projects, teaching formats and cultural exchange, and provides a reliable framework for future cooperation.
The partnership with the Museum Rietberg supports the development of innovative teaching formats within the Department of Art History. It fosters collaboration with non-university partners and with museums across Switzerland, which are increasingly recognised as research institutions.
The partnership with the Museum Rietberg is intended to support the development of innovative teaching formats within the Department of Art History, fostering collaboration with external partners, including museums in Switzerland that are gaining recognition as research institutions.
In particular, the cooperation with the Museum Rietberg enables expanded support for participatory approaches in research and teaching—advancing a model of art historical practice that is globally connected and locally anchored. The collaboration with the Rietberg Museum in particular, further supports innovative forms of engagement in research and teaching — reflecting an art historical practice that is both globally attuned and locally embedded.
